Vermont’s oldest weekly, the Vermont Standard, put out its weekly paper last week despite a July 16 fire devastating the building where the publication is located.
The fire, in the Woodstock, Vermont, building that also held other commercial entities and apartments, burned much of the paper's archives, Vermont Public Radio reported.
The Standard’s staff has been working at the local library.
“All we can do is make it work,” said production manager Lisa Wright, according to NBC10 Boston. “We’ve got what we need: our computers were saved, we’ve got internet — we’re good to go.”
The paper’s front page featured a large “thank you.” Newspaper president Phil Camp says thanks go to communities that supported their firefighters, and to the businesses, friends and advertisers that helped, the TV station reports.
The Woodstock Fire Department said the damage to those properties is likely around a million dollars.
The paper has faced challenges before. A previous location was destroyed by Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
