Scottsdale Progress publishing again after nearly a decade

Steve Strickbine, publisher of Scottsdale Progress and president of Times Media Group, has resurrected Scottsdale Progress newspaper, the paper says. The paper stopped production in 2009. The paper is now producing a weekly Sunday edition with 40,000 copies, ABC15 reported. The first paper of the relaunch went out Sept. 16.

On Sept. 17, the paper held a re-launch party at Hotel Valley Ho. Among those in attendance were Strickbine, Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane, Executive Editor Paul Maryniak, Managing Editor Wayne Schutsky, Arizona historian Marshall Shore and many previous employees of the Scottsdale Progress.

“We’re news about Scottsdale for people in Scottsdale,” Schutsky
told KJZZ public radio.

“If you tell good stories and you really touch the issues and you follow up on them you’re going to have an audience and then people will advertise,” said Strickbine, who in 1997 founded what became Times Media Group, which publishes more than a dozen publications.

The new paper will feature pieces from Schutsky, a full-time reporter, freelancers and other staffers, KJZZ reports.
