LOS ANGELES Instead of buying a dozen roses this Valentine's Day, the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is asking people to donate food in honor of their loved ones.
The Foodbank's president, Michael Flood, urged people Sunday to donate the cost of a dozen roses, or make a tax-deductible donation of $50.
"We hope that on Valentine's Day, people have an especially big heart and will help the hungry," Flood said.
We're asking people to help by making a donation to the Foodbank, and maybe that means just buying a smaller box of chocolates for that someone special, but if you tell them that you also helped out the less fortunate, I'm sure they'll see that your heart is really in the right place."
To make a donation, call (877) NO-HUNGER or visit the related link. Mailed donations may be sent to the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank at 1734 E. 41st St., Los Angeles, CA 90058.
