On Friday October 6th, 2006 the new publisher of the Los Angeles Times, David Hiller, paid the men and women of the Operations Department a visit on his first day as publisher. Many employees felt honored to have our new publisher visit our production site on his first day at the newspaper, yet even this act of kindness did not ebb the flow of the union movement, as the union was voted in three months later.
David Hiller was called back to Chicago this morning, not certain how much longer he will remain with the Tribune Company after today?
Here’s Kevin Roderick’s story from last Friday:
Many in the newsroom believe the next publisher will be Timothy E. Ryan, publisher, president and CEO of the Baltimore Sun and a Tribune circulation guy by previous experience. There has been no announcement regarding incumbent David Hiller, but everybody seems to expect one soon.
Tribune Company publishers are falling like domino’s as the company brings in and promotes from within, in an attempt to plug the advertising and circulation leaks.
Tim Ryan, new publisher of the Los Angeles Times?
