Additional Downsizing at the Los Angeles Times

Several colleagues have called or emailed this morning regarding a voluntary separation package they received this morning via United Parcel Service from the Los Angeles Times.

The company is offering one week’s pay for every year of service, with the deadline for applying set at January 5th, 2011, and company separation to occur between January and March of 2011.

My separation package has not arrived, as of this moment, and not certain if this is company wide or just for pressroom employees?

This will not make the employees that were let go earlier this year from the pressroom empty handed very happy.

Will keep you updated as information becomes available.

  1. It really grills me (especially after reading Victor Davis Hanson's paper on the Two Californias) that we have been letting go skilled workers, and draining out our pool of them for decades now. In the place of jobs that require experience and expertise, what's offered out there are minimum wage jobs at stores that require very little skill.
I don't know? Maybe some of your friends will be looking for jobs in other states.

Hey Easy Writer. It’s been a long time. Glad to see you’re still opinionated and vocal.

However, it really fries me reading your post. Unlike us tubers, people's responses are too often based solely on emotion and "how they feel" about a situation. The left side of their brains are in neutral and they pipe-in on things they know nothing about.

Reality is, machinery of all types, in all industries, are constantly being upgraded. The nasty, capitalist principal here is improved product quality with reduced costs.

Temper emotion with logic; feelings with facts. True comprehension requires both.

    P.S.
Missed you Eddie Baby! Get this blog rocking again. Your site has been a drag so I’ve been hanging with another group getting them pissed off.

Where’s President PiƱata? Hopefully he will “pipe-in” soon. His rants are the purest of emotion and I love them!
