Huell Howser: From the Golden Gates to the Pearly Gates

It's all over the news. The quintessential California booster has died. He celebrated the small things in life: a ball of string made of twine from newspapers, a man who made his own yogurt, even a bust-up of a story that wasn't quite one when he went to the famous Bagdad Cafe.

And so I'm writing his latest: Huell Howser in Heaven.

"I'm standing at the pearly gates. That's right. They're gates and they're pearly. See how pearly they are? And what's this? Look!  They're opening. That's right the pearly gates are opening. Now, I wonder, do they close too? Let's step inside and see.

Well look at that. They open AND they close. Look!  What's this?  Look at ALL of this!

Well, hello!  What's that you've got. You mean it's a HARP and it's GOLD and it plays MUSIC? That's Amazing! Can you play us some music on that golden harp? Listen to that! Golly, get a shot of this Jesus!"

We loved you Huell. Thank you for sharing so many stories with us that defined our lives as Californians.
