Our Journey - Team Garcetti

Eric Garcetti- Los Angeles Mayor 2013
Dear Friend,

Today we made history.

Americans watched as President Obama was sworn in on the same day we commemorated eighty-four years since Martin Luther King, Jr. was born.
Dr. King's life was dedicated to leading our country towards the promised land--a nation free of the stinging legacy of bigotry and discrimination.

Without his work, we could not have celebrated the swearing in of our nation's first African-American President four years ago.
I was proud to stand on the National Mall as a Co-Chair of President Obama's campaign in 2008 and to celebrate as he was sworn in on January 20, 2009.

And today, as President Obama was sworn in for his second term, his inaugural speech reminded us that we must continue Dr. King's fight to end persecution and to ensure there is real opportunty and justice for all.
After being in DC today, I am even more invigorated to return to Los Angeles and keep building momentum in our campaign. I have been campaigning in every neighborhood of this city. More than 100 Angelenos joined me at the Kingdom Day Parade to commemorate Dr. King's legacy of idealism and action.

Working together, I know that we can move Los Angeles forward. I have a proven record as a job creator and a problem solver and I can't wait to get to work as your next mayor.

Today, President Obama echoed Martin Luther King Jr.'s sense of urgency about the task at hand and about our ability to shape our own destiny:  My fellow Americans, we are made for this moment, and we will seize it – so long as we seize it together.

On this historic day, let us to seize this moment so that together we can rebuild our city and our nation.  Sign-up today to join our march forward to create jobs and make government work once again.

Thank you for your support and Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Eric
