Former Denver Post staffers launching digital paper

Former Denver Post reporters and editors are forming a news publication, the Colorado Sun.
They’re working with New York-based Civil Media Company, which relies on blockchain to launch publications.
Larry Ryckman, a former Post senior editor, will be the editor of The Colorado Sun.
The new venture includes five reporters, Kevin Simpson, John Ingold, Tamara Chuang, Jennifer Brown and Jason Blevins, and two senior editors, Eric Lubbers and Dana Coffield. The paper will be digital-only and is looking to launch in August, says Colorado Public Radio.
The Sun has launched a Kickstarter campaign. It says the paper will have no ads.
“Local news is in crisis. In an era when hedge funds and billionaires are too often calling the shots, there is a new opportunity for people to help keep fact-based local news coverage alive,” says the effort’s website.
New York hedge fund Alden Global Capital bought The Denver Post in 2013. Relations between the owner and The Post staff have been contentious amid layoffs and other developments.
