Garden City Telegram to outsource printing

The Garden City Telegram (Kansas) will outsource its print production to its sister newspaper, The Hutchinson News, starting Sept. 2, owner GateHouse Media announced.
Eight jobs, four full-time and four part-time positions, will be lost in the move.
“The current tariff and trade war environment has caused the cost of our newsprint to increase by as much as 30 percent, and we know it is very difficult on our ag-driven economy in southwest Kansas,” said Stephen Wade, senior group publisher for GateHouse Media Kansas, about the move.
Dena Sattler, GateHouse Media group publisher for southwest Kansas, praised the work of the team running the press and mailroom at The Telegram.
“Production teams in Garden City have for many years provided our readers and customers with a top-notch newspaper,” Sattler said. “Our current team has continued that tradition during challenging times.”
