The Daily News (Jacksonville , North Carolina )
will be printed at The Fayetteville Observer starting Sept. 24, Publisher Mike
Distelhorst announced and the paper reported.
Thirteen full-time and 13 part-time
employees will be cut in the move, Distelhorst said.
“The strategic move was a difficult
decision as we lose many long-term colleagues from The Daily News family,” he
said. “Our industry continues its transition further into the digital age and
we have to make changes to be financially sound. Most U.S. newspapers
are either a printer of many or being printed by someone else.”
GateHouse Media owns both papers.
The Fayetteville facility will also start
printing the New Bern Sun Journal and The Kinston Free Press in September and
has printed the Wilmington StarNews for nearly a decade, The Daily News
reported.
