Google has blended its Google Play Newsstand into Google News, the company announced. The revamped Google News is available for Android and iOS.
The combination brings Google Play Newsstand and Google News & Weather into a single experience, according to Google. The new combo includes saved topics and existing magazine and news subscriptions on the favorites tab, so users don’t need to follow or subscribe to them again. It also includes a headlines tab that shows users an unpersonalized view of the top stories of the day.
The result has a lot in common with Apple’s news app. One key difference, according to Stark Insider, is that Google has many magazines wrapped into its News app. Apple has more than 200 magazine titles available for subscription on its Texture app, which remains separate from its News app.
