Lack of obits prompts questions, chuckles

The Journal Pioneer (Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada) had no obituaries in its Aug. 9 edition, causing confusion among some readers and interest on Twitter, the paper reports.
Reporter Colin MacLean’s tweet on the matter reached nearly 1.3 million people. “There were no obituaries in today's paper. People are calling, wondering what happened to them. Just ... nobody died,” it said.
“Folks really seemed to get a kick out of the observation,” the paper said of the tweet. There was talk of the zombie apocalypse, while others, mostly in bigger cities, “were amused at what they saw as the quaint nature of P.E.I. news,” the paper reported.
