Johnson Newspaper making changes

Johnson Newspaper Corp. (New York) is eliminating four positions and returning printing of its newspapers in Batavia and Hudson to Watertown (New York), the Watertown Daily Times reported.

A single copy manager, a production system support technician, a single copy and subscriber bookkeeper and a corporate controller will be cut, said John B. Johnson, chief executive officer, in a staff meeting, according to the paper. 

The company will also rework a job in the bookkeeping department, and most full-time hourly workers in Johnson Newspaper Corp., Northern New York Newspaper Corp., Malone and Columbia Green Media will go from a 40 hour to a 37.5 hour workweek.

“JNC has been reeling from tariffs on newsprint, crippling pension payment requirements, government mandated minimum wage increases and the loss of revenue,” Johnson said.

The changes go into effect Sept. 28.
