The LA Times is bringing back its standalone print section
dedicated to food, dining and cooking, the paper has announced.
The section
will come back to life on Thursdays in April, headed by Food Editor Peter
Meehan and Deputy Food Editor Andrea Chang.
“We view Los Angeles as the
nation’s food capital, and the print section, which will serve as a weekly
digest of our daily coverage, is an expression of our determination to provide
the world’s best, most authoritative and comprehensive coverage of it,”
Executive Editor Norman Pearlstine said.
The Times
has brought on Ben Mims as cooking columnist and Genevieve Ko as cooking
editor. Rachel Schnalzer is on board as audience engagement editor, to steer the
section’s social media. She comes to The Times from BuzzFeed.
The return
of the standalone Food section is part of the paper’s drive to boost its food
coverage across multiple platforms and to areas beyond Los Angeles , the paper said. The Saturday
features section will grow in April as well, with more on the region’s
indoor-outdoor lifestyle, entertaining, design and decor trends, shopping,
D.I.Y. projects, gardening, and health and fitness, the paper says.
