New York-based Minute Media has bought The Big Lead from
Gannett, Morning Consult and others reported. Terms of the deal were not made
public.
The Big
Lead is a sports, opinion and media-focused website.
Minute
Media President Rich Routman told Morning Consult that his company is also
looking at publishers in the tech, food and lifestyle as possible acquisitions.
Fox Sports
media personality Jason McIntyre, a Big Lead co-founder, won’t stay on after
the purchase, according to Morning Consult. Morning Consult says Brian Giuffra,
coming from Minute Media’s 12up brand U.S. sports site, will be in charge
of The Big Lead’s editorial, according to Routman.
In fall of
2018, Minute Media bought Mental Floss, a site that “delivers smart, fun and
shareable content in an upbeat and witty environment.”
Minute
Media also has soccer website 90min and gaming site DBLTAP.
