Arizona Republic to print Tucson paper

The Arizona Republic will take over the printing of Tucson’s Arizona Daily Star in an agreement with Republic owner Gannett, The Republic reported. The printing will happen at a Republicplant located in Phoenix beginning May 21. The papers will travel by truck down to Tucson.
Around 60 jobs in Tucson will be lost in the change, The Republic reported.
“The decision to move our printing and packaging work to Phoenix was not arrived at lightly,” John D’Orlando, the Star’s publisher, told the paper. “But having a press that has been in regular need of repair and upgrade was a constant strain on our resources.”
Some of the workers who lose jobs might go to The Republic or other operations that Lee Enterprises or Gannett own, the Star said. Lee owns the Star, and Lee and Gannett have a joint operating agreement on the Star.
