Minnesota papers launch GoFundMe page

The Dodge County Independent and sister publication the Steele County Times (Minnesota) have created a GoFundMe page and are asking for donations.
“Between the two publications, I have cut eight positions in the past year and a half because revenue has plummeted,” Publisher Rick Bussler said. “We are currently barebones and are quite frankly in danger of becoming extinct.”
The Times office in Blooming Prairie has been offered for sale in an effort to keep the paper running, the Independent reported
The paper said that in the last year, newsprint costs have risen by 30 percent and postal rates have also gone up.
The paper said two papers in Dodge County and Byron have closed, the Byron Review and Star Herald. The Warroad Pioneer recently said it was stopping its weekly publication because of falling ad revenue.
