Johnson Newspapers to close papers, launches new site

Johnson Newspapers has announced some change to its papers, the Watertown Daily Times reported.
The company is closing the Ogdensburg Journal, the St. Lawrence Plaindealer, the Carthage Republican Tribune and the South Jeff Journal. All are bi-weekly or weekly publications.
Also, CEO John B. Johnson has informed staff that June 24 will be the last print edition of the Monday Watertown Daily Times, the paper reported. Going forward, the paper will be in print Tuesday to Sunday and online seven days a week.
The Watertown Daily Times has launched a new subscription-based, regional website, called NNY360, that will include coverage from Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Lewis and Oswego Counties, the paper said.
In the restructuring, the company has cut jobs that were centered on print, the paper said. The paper didn’t say how many jobs were cut.
