The Baltimore Sun Guild has agreed to a three-year
extension with Tribune Publishing, Baltimore Fishbowl reported. The extension maintains step-increase
raises for young journalists, merit raises and other provisions from the old
contract.
Sun
journalists have been advocating for a universal pay boost for some months, and
that’s possible with the extension, according to Baltimore Fishbowl.
Under the
agreement, a pay raise for The Sun’s union members, with a top of 3
percent, is linked to current negotiations with the Chesapeake News Guild,
which represents The Capital (Annapolis ), The
Carroll County Times and journalists in Baltimore Sun Media Group,
Baltimore Fishbowl reports. If the Chesapeake News Guild manages to get a pay
raise for its people, Sun journalists will also see a raise.
The
Chesapeake News Guild is in a joint bargaining process that involves Tribune
operations around the country where unions have recently formed,
including The Hartford Courant, The Virginian-Pilot and
the Chicago Tribune.
