Layoffs were taking place last week at Gannett,
Poynter reported.
It’s not
clear if the layoffs are due to the coronavirus, Poynter reports, or are part
of a strategy related to the GateHouse-Gannett merger, which concluded late
last year.
The number
of layoffs is also not known, according to Poynter. A source did tell Poynter
that the layoffs are linked to the merger.
Also in
news on Gannett, billionaire Leon Cooperman sold around half of his stake in
Gannett at a loss earlier in April, filings show, Business Insider reported.
