Google has announced that more than 5,300 small and medium local newsrooms around the world will receive funding ranging from $5,000 to $30,000. Applications covering a number of publications under one organization will be capped at $85,000.
 • Axios has created three new newsletters, Axios Science, Axios Codebook and Axios @ Work, MediaPost reports
• MLive Media Group is committing up to $10 million in matching advertising grants. "An extremely simple, online application allows business owners to express interest," said Jamie Dionne, senior director of sales.
• Playboy has cut 25, including most of its editorial team, the publication said last week, the Wrap reported. In March, Playboy had ended its print product and moved to a digital offering.
• News Corp Australia is cutting hundreds and will cease print editions of more than 100 suburban and regional titles, the Sydney Morning Herald reported and the company announced.
