Should Government Fund Local News?

Local news outlets have been hard hit by the economic crisis in our nation, and yet it’s one of the few industries not represented in government stimulus spending. One reason is the longstanding philosophy that journalism should be free and clear of any perceived influence by elected leaders. In a time when local news is on the brink, is it time to rethink that opposition to this taxpayer support? Or, are there ways to get this support and yet keep the ethical divide? Join us as we debate this issue and bring forward other ideas for sustaining local media, which is critical to our democracy.
