MLive Media Group is ceasing publication of its seven
Advance Weeklies, publications that cover suburban communities around Grand Rapids , according
to a story on mlive.com.
The last editions will be delivered the last
week of January, the story says.
In February, the On the Town entertainment
guide will stop publication, the story said, and the Mature Lifestyles monthly
guide will go into The Grand Rapids Press.
“Regretfully, this will result in job loss,
and impacted employees of the Advance Weeklies’ team along with a few members
of the distribution force have been notified,” said Dan Gaydou, president of
MLive Media Group. “However, we remain committed to our core mission of
producing great local news and will continue to cover these communities on
MLive.com as well as in The Grand Rapids Press print
editions.” Gaydou cited publishing costs as the reason behind the shutdown.
Gaydou declined to detail how many employees
would lose jobs in the move.
Gaydou said that people who get the Advance
Weeklies will receive MLive Media Group’s Michigan ’s Best print product starting in
February. Michigan ’s Best carries news on
restaurants, entertainment and other matters and currently goes to various
parts of Michigan .
