The Citizen (Auburn ,
New York ) will outsource
production of its printed publications starting April 9, the paper reported.
Lee
Enterprises owns the paper.
The Daily
Messenger in Canandaigua, a GateHouse paper, will print The Citizen.
The paper
has operated its own press and packaging facility, but a “combination of
maintenance issues and staffing shortages brought about the decision to shift
production to an outside company,” the paper said.
The move
will mean the loss of three part-time positions and one full-time position in
The Citizen production department. Those workers are getting severance
packages.
"We
are deeply indebted to our co-workers who had many years’ service, but due to
reliability and staffing concerns, this was our only option," said Thomas
Salvo, the Citizen's interim publisher.
