Central New York’s Citizen to outsource production

The Citizen (Auburn, New York) will outsource production of its printed publications starting April 9, the paper reported.
Lee Enterprises owns the paper.
The Daily Messenger in Canandaigua, a GateHouse paper, will print The Citizen.
The paper has operated its own press and packaging facility, but a “combination of maintenance issues and staffing shortages brought about the decision to shift production to an outside company,” the paper said.
The move will mean the loss of three part-time positions and one full-time position in The Citizen production department. Those workers are getting severance packages.
"We are deeply indebted to our co-workers who had many years’ service, but due to reliability and staffing concerns, this was our only option," said Thomas Salvo, the Citizen's interim publisher.
