The City Council will hold a special study session on October 24, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 245 East Bonita Avenue to discuss the results of the recent Downtown Charrette process.
A charrette is an intense, collaborative work process, where property owners, merchants, residents, and community members identify issues of concern and together come up with a vision for the project area.
Over the past several weeks, there have been community workshops, walking tours and design sessions that have helped to develop a vision for the future of the San Dimas downtown.

I don't know how I missed this post! Since I work in a city in the Planning Department, I'm well aware of the current trend to create a master plan for the downtown areas of a city. San Dimas is fortunate in that it has a clearly defined downtown area. Some of the newer cities don't and many times struggle to identify and create their downtown area. I would be interested in seeing the conceptual plan for San Dimas. Many cities are now incorporating mixed-uses, however, the city I work in chose not to. Mixed-use (having a commercial/retail business on the ground floor and a residential apartment on top) is being promoted as the "newest trend" in downtown areas. However, many years ago, it was very common to have owners of businesses living above their shops.
I'm sure to you this is as interesting as watching paint dry! But, to me (a frustrated architect) zoning and land use is fascinating! Please keep posting about this.
