article in The Oregonian alleging that there was an “arrangement” between the
Pac-12 and the
In late 2018,
Times ad sales representatives had conversations with officials from the Pac-12
about potential advertising. Those discussions, between Times ad sales and
Pac-12 officials, resulted in an insertion order. However, newsroom management
became concerned about a perceived conflict of interest and The Times did not
move forward with the order.
The Times
received no revenue — not a penny — from the Pac-12 or anyone else related to
these conversations. It was also made clear to all parties that the Times
newsroom would have sole and exclusive control over editorial content.
As to the

Cal Poly honors Prince with scholarship, endowment
Cal Poly has established an endowment in honor of printing
industry icon Raymond J. Prince, an advocate of education and industry growth
who died in May.
The
endowment, the Raymond J. Prince Graphic Communication Future Leader Program,
will award annual scholarships to graphic communication students who
demonstrated academic achievement and the potential to succeed in graphic
communication. The endowment will also support program advancement, including
laboratory and professional development.
Harvey R.
Levenson, Cal Poly professor emeritus and former head of the university’s
Graphic Communication Department, aims to reach the first $30,000 as soon as
possible to award two $15,000 scholarships paid over four to five years, and
then raise an additional $70,000 to help endow future Ray Prince scholarships.
Levenson personally pledged the first $15,000 to cover the first scholarship.
Prince, a
61-year printing industry veteran, consultant, and advisor, died on May 1. He
was 76. Along with holding a number of industry jobs, he served as a vice
president of the National Association for Printing Leadership.

Members of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) went on strike. The strike lasted only two days, but inaugurated the NFLPA as a real union. The new agreement won the right for players to bargain through their own agents with the clubs, and minimum salaries were increased to $12,500 for rookies and $13,000 for veterans. Also, players’ pensions were improved and dental care was added to the players’ insurance plans. Players also gained the right to select representation on the league’s retirement board and the right to impartial arbitration for injury grievance. – 1970

print operations by merging five print companies under one roof. imPRESSions
