Heard the sad news a few hours ago that Charlie Packard passed away today, after returning to work last night from sick leave. Charlie was but 53 years old and leaves behind his wife and children. The photos below are from the Chatsworth Production Facility with Charlie and his colleagues.

Not surprised that if more don't start dying at an early age. The Pressroom was always a very unhealthy place to work in, but in the past it was not 24/7 we were exposed to a constant roar of a press, ink and paper dust in the air and harsh solvents as is now. We had plenty of time for lunch and when the run was off we weren't doing Bull Shit busy work. It was get out of the Dungeon. Thanks for a job well done. We now have 4 people doing the job of what was a crew of 11.
If someone was not feeling well we would cover for them. There is no way now that 3 people can cover for someone who is working ill. If you had to take time off for work for a injury or illness you were not at home tossing and turning that you might not have a job when you came back as is NOW!!! Otis treated us as family. He believed in "Noblesse Oblige". Completely the opposite now. He treated his employees like he treated his paper. Nothing but the best. Rest in peace Charlie.
Hey buddy we tried to WARN you about Tribune but we were told ...we don't NEED a Union member ?... time after time folks scared for NO reason what so ever NOW folks are hurting, harassed, written up, Hey I understand the industry is dying, but still people are human and should be treated with dignity BUT when you have a company that brings in people like Newton , psychopath jw ,puss n' boots.. and you call the Guy / Guys who are trying to Organize names and such ....AND NOW your hurting ? ..well you kinda sorta reap what you sow ..so be honest with yourself "OWN IT" and ask yourself ' who did I listen to" you know the names I'm referring to...God Bless
Sorry to hear about chuck he was a fun guy to work with please dont talk about the union at this time it did nothing for the people laid off with out a dime. Remember chuck with his quick wit funny jokes and stories at the race track RIP
again, blaming mangement..11 men crew back in the "lazy and spoiled dayz" where u only needed maybe eight workers for 12 deck runs. now ur down to average 5 or 6 deck runs. quit using deaths of propaganda to promote union. another note, Charlie was a big "Party Man" in his life.i know with hanging with him for over 20 years.always got the party started at public events. hope his horse won the kentucy derby sat.dropping a tear for u Charles, R.I.P
OKAY Russ, we won't blame you for being psychopath who is anti labor or for being a garden weasel. Your a great guy who was just doing his job. Yea right. When I saw Jose Gomez transfer down, who had cancer in the final stage. We saw your compassion. You could of easily let him work days. Instead you put him on graveyard. He lasted one night. 40 years and the number one pressroom super. Thanks for your service. You can take your bullshit and put were it can get packed.
no russ here..thank goodness u had russ take the helm, retrofiting the presses etc. 2 hopefully pull in other newspapers to print. which he gambled on and did! saving ur ass from the unemployment line while putting the others that used 2 print it on it.hek, if he did not get these special papers the plant may have outsoursed whats left of the shrinking circulation of times paper
Well, well if it isn't Russ's water boy. Did he let you in the house for being his Cheerleader.
What is wrong with you people? Charlie passed away at far too young of an age in a tragic way and the way you choose to celebrate his life is by attacking the company? How sick do you have to be to hijack a tragic situation like Charlie's death to support your warped views? And, it takes a real act of courage to publish your hateful messages anonymously. Bravo big man, bravo. You should be proud. And Ed, you should be ashamed for publishing this garbage. Don’t be such an attention whore, it only allows the worst aspect of the gutter snipes that live in the margin of the internet to thrive. I don't care what these trolls say about me, but it is disrespectful to Charlie, his family and his memory.
