I'm back from the Matilija Ranch, 10 miles NW of Ojai.
Gorgeous, gorgeous. We had rain for 3 days, clear on the others. The river was running high and swift, a real nice sound to hear all day and night. The stars above were bright at night, and the sounds of frogs cracked the kids up, but lulled us to sleep at night. A horse and a donkey, along with 3 dogs roamed the property, geese, peacocks and chickens sounded off whenever anyone came up the road.
My kids have that awful teen age affliction. Where they are alternately demanding, demure and dependent. To my horror, the famrhouse had DISH TV, plus a whole wall full of videotapes, courtesy of the owner, who is a voting member of the Academy of Arts & Sciences. Geesh... I go to the country to get away from that junk, and there it all is!
The drive back from Ojai was a nightmare. From Ventura all the way down, and across it was pouring rain. At one point I was doing 8 mph through Monrovia. Along the way, I kept thinking of gettting off, because the rain was so hard that I couldn't see the freeway! And this was during the day. Anyway, a 2 hour drive was a 5 hour drive! Arghhh!
Anyway, it's good to be back. Glad to hear Ed is having a nice time.
kanani, The turkey was superb! I did things a little different this time, I used a remote digital food thermometer, takes all the guess work out of deciding when the bird is done. It sounds like you had a great vacation, aside from the drive home. I don't think it is possible to get away from technology these days.
