“A mayor who is worthy of Los Angeles”
By Olivia Rubio
The upcoming March 5th local election will determine the path of Los Angeles. We will be electing more than a mayor, but a leader for the future of our city. We need a mayor that is more than a blend of James Riordan, James Hahn or Antonio Villaraigosa or Tom Bradley who was noticeably omitted from the article. Mayor Bradley’s work transformed Los Angeles, one of the most diversified and important cities in America, to a unified community with an eye toward a bright future, one that brought the Summer Olympics and the eyes of the world to our city.
Los Angeles is in need of new mayor whose vision is not only about the rich and powerful. Mr. Garcetti was elected in 2001 becoming the youngest city councilmember in the history of the city. He is a fourth-generation Angelino who proudly embraces his multicultural roots and cares for Los Angeles. He emerged as an innovative thinker and effective problem-solver. He represents one of the most dense and diverse districts in Los Angeles which encompasses Hollywood to Downtown. In his district, he tackled hard problems, expanded green space, secured availability to after-school programs, creating one-stop job training and placement centers and spearheaded business tax elimination for small businesses.
Mr. Garcetti is a fine human being with a keen sense of social justice and public service. He will be a mayor that reflects the diversity and the best interest of Angelinos. He has shown over time to be an effective leader and embodies the vision of the future for Los Angeles. His focus in on cultivating local talent, making the city business-friendly by stimulating our local economy, clean energy, access to education and job training to equip our workforce with the skills of the jobs of the future. Garcetti has a track record as an effective leader, vision and fresh energy to lead Los Angeles.
