Quakes Mascot to Shake Up Run/Walk Oct. 26

Sowing Seeds for Life has another major fundraiser coming up in October. It is a 1K fun run for kids followed by a 5K Monster Run/Walk for everyone else and it will be held Oct. 26 at the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario at 4000 East Ontario Center Parkway. The fun run is scheduled for 7 a.m., followed by the 5K at 8 a.m.

Sowing Seeds has procured the services of Tremor, the mascot of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, to kick things off and also hang out with the kids. The entry fee is $30, or $25 prior to Sept. 1. Kids 3-8 are free with a registered runner (there is a limit of two kids per registered runner).

Proceeds benefit Sowing Seeds for Life and Hearts of Lala’s Rainbow.

Participants are encouraged for find sponsors. If one registered runner/walker can raise $120, that means two families can experience a complete Thanksgiving dinner or help purchase more than 450 pounds of food.

Much of what Sowing Seeds hands out at its food pantries the first and third Wednesday of every month is donated, but some food items must be purchased. Because Halloween is only days away from the Monster Run, participants are welcomed to wear costumes or dress up in some way for the occasion.

Following the Ontario event will be the sixth annual Sowing Seeds for Life Celebrity Golf Tournament Nov. 3 at Glendora Country Club and, in December, the charity’s biggest giveaway event of the year, “Christmas in the Park” at Ganesha Park in Pomona.

A new event this year was the Wine Extravaganza held benefitting two local charities. It was held Sunday, April 13, from 4-7 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in Claremont. Participants were renowned wineries offering their best products and local restaurants supplying  gourmet foods. The beneficiary, besides Sowing Seeds, was the Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity.
