News Corp is creating a news-aggregation app dubbed Knewz,
WSJ reported.
The app
would compete with Google News and other platforms that have been the target of
complaints that they don’t reward publishers’ work well enough and that they
provide inferior service for some material, according to sources who have
knowledge of the plans, News Corp-owned WSJ reported.
A launch of
the app could be set for this year, the paper reported. The name could possibly
change, the paper reported.
Along with
The Wall Street Journal, Knewz will have material from sources such as the New
York Times, Washington Post and NBC, WSJ said. Knewz won’t require a portion of
the ad money that publishers make.
