Say No To A Ban On Feeding The Homeless In Los Angeles!

As some of you may already know Los Angeles is considering a ban on the feeding of homeless people in public spaces. Two council members Tom Labonge and Mitch O’Farrell have introduced a resolution requiring that food lines be moved indoors. This is of course without offering indoor facilities for groups who feed the homeless in public spaces or an alternate source of food for those who are starving on the streets.

If passed this resolution would greatly impact groups like The Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition for which this resolution is mainly targeted against and of course our group as well as many other groups who contribute to make sure that the homeless population of LA do not starve.

Los Angeles is a city with a homeless population of 58,000. The majority being people who are mentally ill who cannot care for themselves as well as a significant older population. As many of you may have noticed, this includes a fairly large disabled population as well. A measure of this sort would mean that all of these people, human beings, residents of the City of Angels like us all, would have to either starve or dig through trash cans to satisfy their hunger.

It is up to us as residents of this great city, as humans beings with a responsibility of protecting our fellow human brothers and sisters, to ensure that they do not starve and that no person has to go through the humiliation of digging through someone else’s trash to satisfy their hunger. Therefore we ask you, our supporters to help us in convincing these council members to not go ahead with this measure.

Please join us in emailing Tom Labonge (tom.labonge@lacity.org) and Mitch O’Farrell (councilmember.ofarrell@lacity.org) to remind them that all Angelenos, with shelter or without, have a right to food under their basic human rights, and like all other Angelenos, can have access to food in a public space.
