Hearst has agreed to a $50 million settlement in a proposed class-action lawsuit involving details about magazine subscribers, Variety reported.
Plaintiffs in the suit, Hearst magazine subscribers, claimed Hearst broke the Michigan Video Rental Privacy Act by selling subscriber info to third parties. The 2015 suit claims Hearst sold information about magazine subscribers to data firms and other entities. The information included details about age, race, religion, income level, political donations and shopping habits, the suit says.
The $50 million settlement is the largest ever under the Michigan law.
Hearst admitted to no wrongdoing in the settlement. The case was entered last week in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
