EU negotiators have reached an agreement on new copyright
rules.
The new rules will mean that Google and other
online platforms will need to sign licensing deals with rights holders such as
musicians and journalists to use their work online, Reuters and others reported.
Platforms such as YouTube will need filters
that would keep copyrighted materials from being uploaded.
“Copyright reform needs to benefit everyone -
including European creators and consumers, small publishers and platforms.
We’ll be studying the final text of the EU copyright directive and it will take
some time to determine next steps,” Google Europe tweeted. Google has pushed
back against the negotiated moves.
