2002 : John Walker Lindh is sentenced to 20 years in prison by a federal judge in Alexandria, Va. John Phillip Walker Lindh was captured during the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan while serving in the Taliban army, he was a US citizen and tried in a US court. The charges bought against him included Conspiracy to murder U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals and conspiracy to provide material support and resources to designated foreign terrorist organizations for which he could have received up to three life sentences plus 90 additional years. He was offered a plea bargain "of pleading guilty to supplying services to the Taliban, and carrying weapons during crimes of violence" for which he would receive 20 years which he accepted and is now serving his sentence in FCI, Terre Haute in Terre Haute, Indiana.

2013 : Rioting began in the Kenyan City of Mombasa after a Muslim cleric, Ibrahim Omar was killed. At least four people were killed with several others injured. Omar had links with al-Shabab and was believed by rioters to have been killed by the authorities.
