We're raising funds to officially launch Venice Dispatch in order to develop an independent, local source for news and information about Venice, Calif.
Should we meet our fundraising goal, here are some ways we plan to spend the funds:

• Throw a launch party!
• Pay contributing writers and photographers
• Marketing
• Online hosting/bandwidth costs

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

One of the main challenges will be recruiting writers, photographers, interns and community members to join Venice Dispatch and become part of this new online community. I'm grateful that I've had a lot of good experiences working as a reporter/editor and I'm aiming to provide the hard news for the site, but am hoping that community members will step in and contribute to round out the site.
Part of the goal is to share the journalism tips and tricks that I've learned over the last 20 years with the next generation of reporters and citizen journalists. There's a risk this won't happen, if I get hit by a bus or something.
