Using social media for news is falling, according to a report from Oxford’s Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. “The use of social media for news has started to fall in a number of key markets — after years of continuous growth. Facebook is down 9 percentage points in the U.S. while use of alternative platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Snapchat are increasing,” the report says.
The report attributes the trend to a decline in the discovery, posting, and sharing of news in Facebook.
