What's the Point?

George Russell Weller, 89 years old, is about to go on trial for the Santa Monica Farmers Market accident that killed ten and injured sixty people three years ago.

The trial is estimated to run six weeks, and in my opinion, he will receive probation and lose his drivers license. What's the point in even having a trial?

Whats the point??? 10 deaths 60 hurt , What do you think the 10 dead would want? The 10 lives cut short , and his response was " You saw me coming you should have gotten out of the way." He new exactly what he was doing , I beleive it was NO ACCIDENT . I think he will get a reduced sentence of some sort. We all have to be held accountable for our actions , If not elderly people can commit heinous crimes knowing that WEEK PEOPLE will FEEL SORRY for them and give them a free pass. I say lock him up untill he rots , and the only thing he will have in his prison cell is the autopsy photos of the 10 people he slaughtered . Mr. OC

There are two points.
First, that we have a justice system that is willing to work as it should in a case this big.
Second, that the lives of those ten people were worthy of having the justice system work on their behalf.

It's tragic that he's so old, on the other hand, even more so was that those people left behind families, friends and co-workers who loved him.

It would be awful to have your mother or father be killed, then never see the 'wheels of justice' put into action as it ought. The greater message that it would send is that there are times when people can get away with it. You and I both know that this is true, however, for someone young, they need to see our system of checks and balances in place.

One of the basic tenets of the law, justice is blind.

Justice is blind..... Well OJ Simpson , Michael Jackson , Robert Blake there juries were not blind there blindfold was stuffed in there ears. Mr. OC

Actually, when I said justice is blind I was referring to the fact that the law, as written, doesn't excuse a crime because of a person's age, ethnicity, height, weight, etc. And yes, I do agree, the jury system is not perfect.

This is good example of an on going problem for many years. Youre driving down the street and you see this person swerving from side to side and going below the speed limit. So. You just avoid hitting tham and continue on youre way. Yet. I have thought. How can this person have a licence?. The solution lies in the fact that many people at this moment, with respect to there age, are driving down the street with potentail to repeat this tragic accident.
