Los Angeles Times Terminates the Blogging Pressman

After working thirty-nine years, four months, and nine days for the Los Angeles Times I was informed over the phone by human resources that I was terminated on Monday December 12th, 2011. I had no clue I was under investigation, so it came as a shock to learn I was being investigated by human resources and terminated upon the completion of the so-called investigation.

I’m not at liberty to share why I was terminated or what my actions in response will be at this time; so stay tuned as this unfolds.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. If worse comes to worse you can always get a job at a MMJ clinic, as a taste tester :-)
BTW...I've enjoyed your blog, it's kept me informed on the goings on since I was shown the door a few years ago. Life is great since I left the Times, still miss the guys but I love my new career. Maybe the wizard of odds can work his union magic and save your job.

39 years of great talent is hard to replace. Many times an H/R representative as well as a company fails to see and acknowledge great talent; instead they make decisions that will actually hurt the company. Do I hear a book in the making?? Hmmm....food for thought...."40 years...a look back" or "Behind the scenes-an In side look at the L.A. Times".......;)

Like we needed more proof that Tribune is a toilet that needs to be flushed. David Geffen, where are you? Congratulations, Tribune, on turning the LA Times from an 8 billion dollar company into an 8 million dollar company. They are just following the shining example set by Randy Michaels, who was just arrested for drinking and driving. Here's the link: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-10-14/business/chi-randy-michaels-arrested-for-ovi-in-ohio-20111014_1_benjamin-homel-chief-executive-randy-michaels-dui

Ed, sorry to hear this. My employment started in October of 72 also. I'm sure glad I left the Times before the SHTF in 82. I hope things work out for you.

It must have been a reason to fire you. Take them to court, if they have no good reason..its not a layoff is it? Production Directors are looking for anything to get rid of press ops, its BS, but if it was not with cause, you have a good case against them
New to your blog, found it on Gannettblog, com. I work as a press op for a gannett paper and shall I just say this ship is and has been taking on water for q long time..more to come

Eddy Baby,

Sorry to hear the news.

However, all these years I've been telling you a simple truth...

"If you keep sh*tting in your own house long enough, don't be surprised when you get some stink on yourself."

Now go take-on the future.

Best,

Sorry, it seems the powers that be got their knickers in a knot. But it remains their burden to take this through the process to prove their accusations have any meaning. I guess they should all put aside for lots of time for depositions, etc.

Hey Grandpoop everyones SH*T stinks, thats a given it's when people leave the door open and the smell permeates throughout the whole pressroom starting with that Shitty v.p. , plant manager, & that bipolar psycho's office. Now THATS the simple truth.

Sorry to hear of your firing. I hope the truth comes out and the union can find fault in why you were fired and gets you back.

Being laid off is one thing, but being fired is another.

Sorry to hear about your termination Ed. It's amazing how that place has changed for the worst throughout the years. It seems a bunch of "cut throats" is all that remains. The "Good Ol Boys" of the past (Fast Eddie, The Sarge, Lorenzo Scurlocko & The Vulcher) made the job a fun & pleasant place to work. It's a shame people today (especially management) can't grasp that concept. I am glad that I resigned from The Times when I did.
