Subject: The Times 130th Anniversary: Looking Forward/Reflecting Back
From: Bugarin, Leticia
Let your employees know about this and Oly employees are also eligible for the drawing.
Oly will also be offering Coffee and donuts to its employees on Tuesday (12/6/11) and ice cream on Wednesday (12/7/11) in celebration of the LA Times' 130th Anniversary.
From Edward:
Celebrating the Los Angeles Times 130th birthday is great, unfortunately the majority of employees working in Operations at the newspaper will not be included in marking this milestone with our colleagues. With Monday and Tuesday’s or Tuesday and Wednesday’s as our days off, most operations employees will miss the freebies on Tuesday and Wednesday. Note the Eddy Hartenstein memo, the free ice cream will be served from 2PM to 3PM, five crews begin their shifts at Olympic on Wednesday at 4PM and the Wall Street crew at 4:30PM, appears we will all miss out?
Lee Carey and myself went to speak with our Plant Manager Happy boots regarding the $1.30 meals all day and night being offered at Times Mirror Square all week, wondering why the same price wasn’t offered to Olympic Facility employees? Happy boots stated “Your welcome to the $1.30 meals if you visit the Square”.
Happy boots also said, “As usual you have it all wrong Edward, you’re getting more than just ice cream, you’re getting a hot fudge sundae”.
On the positive side of this story is the joining of Lee Carey and myself in one direction, we’re polar opposites when it comes to unionism at the newspaper, in the betterment for our colleagues in operations.

being a pressman is great. its easy, fun and pays great! 2/3 of the pressroom came from la times janitors, la times cooks, la times bobcat drivers and paper stackers in mailroom.
My kind of people and I love working with all of you, no matter where you originated!
Send an e-mail to Eddy. Let him know about your response from "Happy Boots".
Operations management has no respect for anybody.
Their negative attitude towards employees does not stop at the bargaining unit but permeates the entire building.
Right now those ex jantors, cooks and paper stackers are probably glad they went to the pressroom. All the people they USED to work with have been laid off and replaced with part timers ala "The Tribune school of management"
WOW! Are you sure???

Glad no union press workers have been laid off. Keep drinking the kool-aid "brother", make sure your dues are on time and don't peak behind the curtain, the wizard of odds will protect you.
Since the union won in 2007 there has been more than 100 presspeople laid off with another 18 coming soon. Throw that in with no raises in 4 years and no retirement contributions and you can figure a lot of the ex janitors, cooks, and paper stackers have been laid off.
you have Tribune managers come in and destroy the place, have spent five or six years here and then critcize 25-30 year employees for not being loyal to the company because they called in sick. hmmmmm
Hopefully Saterlee & carey are learning that this isn't O.C. anymore
ever friday happy boot and russ at 4 30 come look at are food on d press and say were did this come from no one like them say in your office . what i dont like thay say hi how you doing . thay just dont get it
Rudy H. You been gone for many years and still comment constantly. Must be missing the place.
LET US NOT FORGET APART FROM THE JANITORS, COOKS, DRIVERS. THEY ALSO HIRED AN EX CON. YOU CAN SPOT HIM WITH HIS THUG WALK. WHEN HE TALKS IN THE INTERCOM ON THE PRESS HE IS UNDERSTANDABLE.
They also hired thieves. I never experienced as many as in the Olympic Plant.
