The Carthage Press has ceased publication.
The Missouri paper, which
first published in 1884, saw its last day of publication on Aug. 29, the Joplin
Globe reported.
The paper’s front
page thanked the people of Carthage
and Jasper counties.
"As Southwest
Missouri's oldest daily newspaper, it's been a privilege serving the Carthage communities for
all these years," Joseph Leong, senior group publisher, wrote in a letter
to readers. "While we transition our focus, we remain committed to serving
neighboring communities."
The Neosho Daily
News will cover important Carthage
news, the letter said. GateHouse media owns both papers.
Subscribers will
get refunds within 30 days for what’s left on their subscriptions, the letter
says.
