Shortlist Media, Sao Paulo Shimbun in international headlines

Among international stories garnering attention:

• The U.K.’s Shortlist Media had its pre-tax losses double last year, CityAM.com reported.

The publishing group produces Shortlist and Stylist magazines.

The company reported pre-tax losses of £8.6m in the year to the end of March 2018, with turnover up to £22.9m from £22.6m the previous year, CityAM.com said.

“Shortlist Media continues a long-term transformation strategy to shift the major revenue stream from print display to multi-platform, predominantly content-based solutions,” the company said in a report filed to the government.

• Four daily newspapers in Kuwait have stopped production on Saturdays in an effort to slash expenses costs, according to the state-run Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Arabian Business reported. The papers are Al-Qabas, Al-Rai, Al-Anbaa and Al-Jarida. “This is a 100 percent economic decision aimed at cutting cost,” Al Qabas chief editor Waleed Al-Nisf was quoted as saying by KUNA. “There are difficulties in competing against electronic means.”

• The AP reported that the Sao Paulo Shimbun newspaper has put out its last edition, after 72 years. Brazil's Japanese community is the biggest globally outside of Japan. AP also reported that Danish newspaper Politiken aims to cut its carbon footprint by stopping in-country air travel and lowering the number of global flights.
