Apple is expected to announce its retooled Apple News at
an event on March 25. The product will include a batch of subscriptions in one
monthly plan, CNBC reports. It also includes an Apple magazine
service, which could be called Apple News Magazine. Apple is also expected to
announce a new video service at the March 25 event.
Apple
bought the Texture app, dubbed “Netflix for magazines,” last year.
Some
publishers are unhappy with Apple’s revenue sharing terms and will likely not
be involved, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Developer
Steve Troughton-Smith perused beta code on the project and found that
subscribers may be able to download magazines for offline reading. According to
Troughton-Smith on Twitter, the magazines will be PDF-based. He listed genres
he found in the code: entertainment, fashion and style, food and cooking,
health and fitness, home and gardening, kids and parenting, men’s lifestyle and
news and politics.
