1944 : Germany launches 10 of its new V1 rockets doodlebugs which were pilot less, jet-propelled planes capable of unleashing a ton of cruise missile explosives against Britain. Over time the Germans increased the number of doodlebugs to nearly 100 per day which fell over London.

1933 USA Great Depression Home Owners Refinancing Act
1933 : This was one of the worst years of the Great Depression in the 1930s and homeowners got some relief as Congress gave the nod to the Home Owners Refinancing Act as part of the larger NEW DEAL initiative to get America moving again from President Franklin Roosevelt. The act provided mortgage assistance to homeowners or would-be homeowners by providing them money or refinancing existing mortgages, over the next few years the "Home Owners' Loan Corporation" had refinanced nearly 1 in 5 urban homes in the country. What is often forgotten is most mortgages back then were for much shorter duration often from 10 to 15 years term. ( What the "Home Owners Loan Corporation" did was to offer longer period 20 to 25 years typically which made the payments much lower).

1953 : A Heatwave has been affecting many states with unofficial temperatures recorded in Pittsburgh of 112 degrees and an overall temperature across many states of 100 degrees plus, The Heatwave is forecast to end in the next few days with severe storms predicted as the cool air from the Rockies hits the hot air.

Following The Supreme Court Miranda decision, the nation's police departments are required to inform arrested persons of their rights under the ruling, termed a Miranda warning.

2002 : After nearly 1 week forest fires which began in Pike National Forest on Saturday in Colorado have destroyed nearly 100,000 acres of land are coming under control by the 2,800 firefighters fighting the fires but some homes are still in danger near the main city of Denver.

2005 Michael Jackson Trial Concludes
2005 : Popular music megastar, Michael Jackson, was found not guilty on all charges after being accused of child molestation and undergoing a very public four month long trial in California. The allegations surrounded the pop singer and a thirteen year old boy named Gavin Arvizo, in which Arvizo accused Jackson of serving him alcohol and molesting him. Jackson continually denied all charges.

2006 : The US Energy department has released a report that the State Of Colorado is sitting on about a trillion barrels worth of oil in the form of Oil shale reserves in the Green River basin, which covers portions of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming, about 70% of this resource is located on federally owned or managed land, nearly as much as the rest of the world's conventional oil reserves added together. The problem with Oil Shale Reserves is the cost of extraction and the Environmental Considerations due to the process required to turn Oil Shale into Oil. As the price of oil continues to increase the viability of extracting oil from oil shale increases but Royal Dutch/Shell has been conducting field research in Colorado's Rio Blanco County for 10 years.

2008 United States Television Journalist Dies
2008 : Fifty-eight year old, Tim Russert, of Meet the Press fame, died suddenly of a heart attack. The popular US journalist had become famous for conducting probing interviews with presidents and those aspiring to be president, as well as addressing political news on a weekly basis with Meet the Press.
2009 Iran Ahmadinejad Wins Re-election
2009 : Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won his re-election with 62.6% of the vote in his favor. The opposition's supporters questioned the results and suspected corruption. Many opposition supporters also clashed with police after the results were announced, despite a ban on all protests.
2012 Wildfires Continue in Colorado and New Mexico
2012 : Hundreds of firefighters from several states joined together to combat two of the largest wildfires recorded in Colorado and New Mexico. Best efforts were being made to contain the blaze that had consumed over 275,000 acres since May.
2013 United States DNA Cannot Be Patented
2013 : The US Supreme Court has ruled the human DNA cannot be patented in a unanimous decision. The ruling also stated that artificially copied genes could be claimed as intellectual property. The ruling came after a firm in Utah patented two genes linked to breast and ovarian cancer.
