On December 12, 2006, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided six meat processing plants operated by Swift & Co.. The raids were part of Operation Wagon Train, the largest single worksite enforcement action in U.S. history. The raids were conducted in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, and Utah.
1882: William N. Doak was born in Roanoke, Virginia. Doak became the vice president of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and later served as the secretary of labor under President Herbert Hoover. As secretary of labor, Doak established a five-day workweek at the Labor Department.
1964: Half of France's labor force ended a strike on December 12.
