Ten more employees let go at the Los Angeles Times

 Raul Campos
 Keith Denson
John Miner

The Los Angeles Times decreased the employee population by another ten just before the new year was reached, which lightens the load as the newspaper prepares to become independent of the mother company.

Here's something everyone might find interesting: I'm told that the two companies have been nicknamed SpinCo and RemainCo. The unofficial deadline for separating the two companies? June 14.

The following men have left the Los Angeles Times Press Room:
David Joe
Kraig Minters
Bill Jahr
John Miner
Ricky Russel
Roger Morresette
Keith Denson
Charlie Laird
Ignacio Rios
Raul Campos

Chicago Tribune cuts 15 employees

Jim Romenesko is seeking information from Tribune Company employees regarding the layoffs at the Chicago Tribune, his message below.

Lynne Marek at Crain’s reports the dismissed employees include reporters, editors and managers. Several staffers left the newsroom last month after accepting the paper’s buyout. || I’d appreciate any memos/information (names and positions) from Tribune people. (You won’t be named, of course.) Send emails to Jim@JimRomenesko.com.

Eight more Employees let go at the Los Angeles Times

Linda Olmeda and Arnold Williams, both now former employees of the newspaper

The grim reaper paid the Los Angeles Times Operations Departments a visit late last night as eight additional employees were let go. Not even two weeks into the New Year and layoffs commenced once again should be a rather interesting year at the newspaper.

Frank Lind

Los Angeles Times Christmas Purge

Victor Banuelos with Sam Zell

The Los Angeles Times Christmas purge is ongoing, as several pressmen have been notified today that their services are no longer needed for tonight’s shift. A total of thirteen pressmen will be laid off by December 31st, 2011, or sooner as the advertising in the newspaper has lightened with Christmas just two days away. I wish my former colleagues the best.

Downsizing at the Los Angeles Times

Chatter from the Los Angeles Times Orange County Production Facility claims the Advertising Department may have had a visit from the grim reaper this afternoon. The caller stated they would call back with the body count if this were indeed true.

Last night the Times Olympic Facility had a rash of sick calls, either many were ill, or they don’t believe management will pay them for their unused sick days when they are dismissed? But just incase this trend continues, many of us have been requested to standby our phones for overtime shifts tonight, Friday night, and Saturday night.

This morning at 10:45 a.m. human resources paid a visit to the Olympic Plant, not certain if anyone was axed at this moment?

Kevin Roderick states that some employees in the Editorial Department are being offered buyouts, instead of layoffs.

New Layoffs in Philly Prompt Guild Advisories

We all know layoffs are coming to the editorial department at the Los Angeles Times, not certain when this will occur or how many writers will be leaving the newspaper yet. Prior to the new year a handful of Times writers left for new positions across the country.

Here's what's happening at the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Two weeks after Newspaper Guild members at Philadelphia's two newspapers avoided a strike and signed onto a new agreement, many staffers are bracing for layoffs, with some reportedly arriving already today. Rumors of job cuts have been swirling at the newsrooms of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News since last week, according to some guild leaders.

The Associated Press reports this afternoon that the Inquirer began a round of layoffs today. Several reporters at the Inquirer said they were told Tuesday morning that their jobs were being eliminated, according to AP. The employees said that they were told to meet with personnel officials on Wednesday to discuss details of their severance pay and health benefits.

"The specific number of layoffs is still unclear because some Inquirer employees have already taken other jobs since word of the impending layoffs was announced in November," the AP reports.
