Peninsula Press Club: Hearst considering 'paperless' newspaper

Hearst considering 'paperless' newspaper

Maybe it's time to give up printing newspapers and deliver the news online. That's what the folks in the new Hearst tower in NYC are thinking.

I've heard this theory from time to time. I realize there are laptops all around us but not everyone wants to carry them around to get their paper. The fact is people don't just get news from newspapers. Newspapers also provide an entertainment value as well as more indept information then one would see on the news. The paper is also convenient and cheap enough for everyone to pick up and disposable when finished. Newspapers are far from dead.

As a reader of online news and the hard copy news, I still enjoy my morning newspaper with a cup of coffee, but I’m old school. I leave newspapers on the kitchen table for my teenagers and grandson, but rarely are they touched, could this be the way of the future?

Newspapers will be with us for several more decades, but will continue to evolved into smaller versions, with more news moving to the Internet as times flies by.

Revenues online for newspapers are not expected to equal the printed version for ten more years; I will expand on this later.
