PAUL GLEDHILL OBITUARY



 

February 26, 1941 - December 4, 2022 Paul passed away on December 4, after a seven-year battle with Alzheimer's. His family was by his side.
Paul was born to Myrtle and James Gledhill in Los Angeles and filled his 81 years with a full life devoted to family, career and many hobbies. He leaves behind his loving wife Mary Phil (Reilly) Gledhill, his three children; Daughter, Sue Melnick Martirano(Paul); Sons, Jeff Gledhill, and Jim Gledhill. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren; Trevor Gledhill (Katie), Andrew Gledhill, Lily Gledhill, Greta Gledhill and Rachel Gledhill. Kyle Melnick, Colin Melnick, Troy Melnick, Zach Martirano (Kaeley) Peyton his only great-grandchild and Gabriel Martirano. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Sheaffer(John), in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Paul was very active in the Arcadia community with sports, church and the many talents that he shared with all. He was often thought of as a gentle giant, and a kind and fair man.
He had an outstanding career in the newspaper business, starting with the Los Angeles Time's for 31 years, where he left a glossary of accomplishments and rose to VP of Operations. He closed out his career at the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Newspaper Association and retired in 2008 as VP of Operations. He returned to his native home, California in 2008, settled in Escondido, and he and Mary Phil enjoyed many new friends, their RV and the growing family. Paul was proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years.
Mass will be celebrated in his Parish of San Rafael Catholic Church, 17252 Bernardo Center Dr, San Diego, Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 10 AM. Burial at San Luis Rey Mission, Oceanside.
In lieu of flowers, gifts to Alzheimer's, San Diego or Labrador Rescue would be appreciated.
