Message From David Hiller Publisher LAT

Folks,

I am pleased to announce that Don Meek has joined us today as President, Tribune Integrated Media/Los Angeles. In this new role, Don will be reporting jointly to both me and KTLA’s general manager and will be responsible for developing integrated multimedia programs across all Tribune properties in SoCal, including KTLA, Los Angeles Times, Hoy, Metromix, Times Community News, etc., and working with our various sales teams to get them sold. What this means is Don will be changing the way we sell advertising by offering clients packages that integrate our print, targeted niche, direct response, TV, online, and event products so they can reach the largest number of consumers – or selectively targeted audiences – across multiple platforms as their marketing objectives demand

Don comes to us with an impressive background that is ideally suited to this endeavor. With experience in sales and marketing (VP at Sony Pictures Entertainment and SVP at iFilm Corp), digital media (most recently a principal at Engine where he worked with Jacked, Name Media, Passenger and Imperium), events (president of the Gravity Games and event group VP at Fox Sports Net where he developed and managed the US Open of Surfing, among many other properties), print publications (President of the Action Sports Group/Surfer, Surfing, Snowboarder, Skateboarder, Powder, Canoe & Kayak, Climbing, and Bike magazines), and broadcast sales (KCBS and KCAL), he has an understanding of it all—and most importantly how it all fits together. Don also grew up here in Los Angeles and has a keen understanding of the local media landscape, the power of Tribune’s brands here in Southern California, and the opportunities we have to change the way we do business in this market.

During his time at Action Sports Group he turned their traditional magazine publishing company into an action sports “media enterprise.” He introduced video advertising on all their Web sites, developed and implemented a digital radio show and companion podcast, instituted a cross-promotional discipline that moved their print readers to the Web and back again, developed a widget-based distributed content strategy that helped grow traffic by more than 20% over three months, started webcasting events, and oversaw a number of other client-specific programs that worked across platforms. In short, when it comes to maximizing opportunity and exposure, Don’s a pro.

Don will be located here on the 8th floor of Times South and can be reached at x75630or dmeek@ tribune.com. Please be sure to stop by and welcome him.

David
