Colorado woman back in magazine business

A Colorado woman who started a craft publishing company and sold it 15 years ago has purchased three of the titles she launched, the Loveland Reporter-Herald reports.

Linda Ligon launched what became Interweave Press in 1975. The company eventually produced seven magazines, along with books and websites, the Reporter-Herald says. Ligon sold to Aspire Media in 2005. Ligon and two others have now started a new company, Long Thread Media.

On Aug. 1, the Long Thread team bought Spin Off, Handwoven and PieceWork, which were available because of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy of F+W Media, whose titles on a number of topics were auctioned off, the paper reported.

Peak Media Properties purchased the crafts and arts entities of F+W and then sold the three titles to Ligon and team, the paper said. Peak also took over the reins at F+W Media’s operations in Fort Collins.

The name Interweave stays with Peak Media, which will produce Interweave Knits, Interweave Crochet and the website interweave.com.

The Long Thread Media publications will be printed by Wisconsin-based Quad/Graphics, Ligon said.
